The Moon

"Tell me what you feel in your room when the full moon is shining in upon you and your lamp is dying out and I will tell you how old you are, and I shall know if you are happy." -Swiss philosopher Amiel

I don't remember where I read this quote but I wrote it down in my journal along with my answer: 

Happy and blessed, favored. That is how I feel when I wake in the night and the moon is shining on me, shining in my room all silver and soft. How old does that make me? Very young and light-hearted or very old and wise? Both. 

The moon has always been a friend to me. If I feel anxious in the night, one look at the night sky and peace is restored. "By the word of the Lord were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth." So much comfort in this Psalm and as Browning said, "God's in His heaven, all's right with the world." The moon reminds me of who is in control when the world is scary and I am thankful for the signs and assurance that He is omniscient and near.
