Scissor-tailed Flycatcher

We call them scissortails. These are, maybe, my favorite birds. To see them in flight is spectacular, perched on a wire or fence, beautiful. They nest in the trees by our gate and, walking past in the early mornings, the trees sound as though they’re full of chattering monkeys. The prettiest part, that you rarely see, is the bright salmon pink underneath their wings. So many delightful, little things to help make up for the hard, sad things.
