My First Art Walk…

-

…was one I’ll not soon forget. I wasn’t planning on being open for this month’s Art Walk, but travel plans changed and it seemed like a good idea to get some art together, whip up some refreshments and be there to meet and greet. Anna, my faithful helper, and I loaded the car and set off for town on this beautiful summer day. We hung our shingles (my other daughter, Elizabeth, is sharing the space with me – she’s WildBloom Studio):studio signs
We hung art and set the table:studio 1st art walk

This was the kick-off and statue-unveiling for the Children’s Art and Literacy Festival, so we were watching the parade from our 2nd story window. There go some vintage cars. Horses! A group of children waving flags, some floats, storybook characters…..wait…..here they come again…the other way…And then this happens:rain

And then this happens:
car front hail

And then this:car back hail All hail broke loose! Everyone’s car looked just like mine, or worse.

Elizabeth drove from her neighborhood, which was not hit, parked and ran into the studio just minutes before the storm. In her words, “All I did was put my car in the hail!” She and my grandbaby, and several other people dressed up as I don’t know what, waited it out with us.
Sooooo, all did not go as planned, but everyone was safe and that’s what matters. Good call, Abilene Police Department, or whoever made the decision to reverse the parade and get people off the streets.

I’m already thinking about our do-over next month and it does NOT include bad weather. But, we all know about the best-laid plans.
